Ert tú brynjað til føroyska veðurlagi?(translation: Are you dressed/prepared for the faroese weather?)
Hi! I am Durita Jógvansdóttir Thomsen and I am the founder of PROSJEKT BRYNJA.
PROSJEKT BRYNJA will mainly make outerwear with faroese sheep wool, a material which is very durable, warm and water repellent and thereby an excellent material for coats and jackets to wear on cold and rainy days.
I think faroese wool is truly special to wear. I know where is comes from, I know it’s rich history and the importance it used to have in the Faroe Islands. And I know that this project contributes to a more sustainable way of making clothes. As we wear jackets and coats all year around, I also think that we need more variety in the outerwear section.
I started my own business in 2020 with the name DURITA THOMSEN, which since has made handmade and handknitted pieces sold first in Østrøm and now on the main shoppping street in Tórshavn, in the shop called Káta Hornið.
Through these 4 years I have learnt alot, networked, and gotten lots of work experience which, I think, all has led me to this project. The goal is to bring faroese wool back into our everyday life and use it for something that it is perfect for, outerwear. That, and to create those special garments that last a lifetime.
The possibilities in colours and shapes are endless, but to get started I need your help.
I have worked on this project for a while now and made 4 samples of jackets and one pair of mittens. With a few adjustments they are ready for production. I hope you see the value of my idea and want to help me get started. If the project will be crowdfunded the money will be used to make the last samples and for the production. If there will be enough I will also use it for marketing and to go for a visit in the factory in Litava to make sure we have a strong working relationship.
If all goes well I will continue to work towards a brand that primarily works with faroese wool.
If you want to contribute to the funding with a big or small amount, if you share this on your Instagram and Facebook or if you tell someone else who might be interested in my project, I truly appreciate it! Thank you! :)
